He studied Chemistry at the University of Athens where he graduated in 1979. He received his Ph.D. from the AUA in 1984, on the composition and study of bioactive pyrans applying nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. During 1988-1989 he joined the research group of Professor Nicolaou (University of Pennsylvania, USA) specializing in Synthetic Organic Chemistry. He was visiting professor at the University of California (San Diego, UCSD, 1992) and Scripps Research Institute (1994). During this period, he was part of the team that achieved the synthesis of natural Taxol and Brevetoxin B products. Since 2000, he is a visiting professor at NCSR "Demokritos", setting up the newly established laboratory of Organic and Bio-organic chemistry. More than 10 natural products have been synthesized by his team and he was supervisor of 8 Ph.D. students. He is the author or co-author of over 60 scientific papers (about 1000 references) and 10 patents.

RESEARCH INTERESTS: His research team focused primarily on organic and bio-organic chemistry, composition and the use of bioactive natural products and designing new instruments and, recently, the Combinatorial Chemistry.
